Three types of meditation to help you stay focused
Meditation could be the last thing that you were expecting to hear about productivity. I mean, what does it even have to do with productivity? It makes no sense at all. If you want to be productive, then you’d be much better off reading blog posts about creating to-do lists and other blogs like that, but we all know that there’s more to being productive than listing down things to do. After all, productivity isn’t about planning. Rather, it’s about doing. It’s about the application. It’s about committing to a plan and timeframe, but like so many things in life, this is something that’s easier said than done.
This makes total sense, right? Still, it doesn’t have anything to do with meditation. Well, don’t be so quick to judge. What exactly happens when we meditate? Our stress levels are reduced, right? Well, this isn’t exactly a stress management course. Yes, I know, but you’re missing the point. The whole reason people become unproductive is because they have too many things in their hands. They have to do this. They have to do that. And after all of it, they still have a lot of things in their hands. They want to finish all of it, but they just can’t. Why? Well, because unproductivity already sunk in. Your body is tired. Your mind is tired. Yet, you’re forcing it to function. Well, of course, it will listen to you. It’ll function as long as you want to, but the question isn’t a matter of whether your mind and body are going to function. Rather, it is a question of whether it is going to function well. I mean, productivity isn’t about being busy. Rather, it is about getting stuff done. You’ll only be able to get stuff done if your body and mind are in harmony, thus the need for meditation arises.
It is when we meditate that we come to re-energize ourselves. It is through meditation that we rewire our minds. Even so, bear in mind that meditation isn’t just “meditation”. There are different kinds.
Three types of meditation:
What is guided meditation? I mean, there are all sorts of guidance, and if I ever needed one, I’ll probably go to a professional. Seeking guidance from myself probably is not the best option. That may be true, but in this case, since we are talking about productivity, the answer is really just to you. You just don’t know how to get it out. Well, help yourself. Help yourself by using guided meditation.
Just like what its name suggests, guiding meditation is that sort of meditation wherein you guide yourself in a scenario. You can either do it in groups or alone.
Well, the thing is after you do this kind of meditation you’re going to feel more confident, after having made it to the last of the scenario. Your confidence is back. Your energy is back. With that, you are going to be more productive. You’d want to make that victory a real one. With that, you’ll be compelled to do your tasks.
Mindful meditation is when you’re supposed to focus on an object. You can choose a stone, chair, phone, computer, bed, laptop, glass. You decide. This kind of meditation is particular with breathing since the purpose of this kind of exercise is to improve focus.
So, what does it have to do with productivity? Well, everything. I mean, the reason most people find it hard to be productive is because they are having a hard time focusing on a single task. It’s just like what I’ve said, productivity isn’t about being busy. Rather it’s about getting something done. You can only do that if you have focus.
This is the sort of like the mindful meditation, except, instead of focusing on a single object you have to focus only on your surroundings. This type of meditation is aimed at improving your physical presence. It helps you live at the present.
If you come to think about it, this is also one of the major reasons why people can’t be productive. Before they even get to the middle of what they were doing, their mind is already wandering someplace else. Instead of getting the job done, their mind is already thinking of other things that need attention.
