5 fabulous apps for creating a stunning Instagram Feed

VSCO cam

What is it? It’s a photo editing app that has free and paid presets (filters) to edit your images, or you can use the single controls to edit them by hand. This app helps you achieve that grainy, film look.

Why do we love it? The pre-made presets make it easy to achieve a certain look quickly and easily, with our phone’s images! We also love the built-in community that is filled with inspiration.

Cost: Free, but there are in-app purchases for the add on presets.

ColorStory

What is it? It’s another photo editing app, surprise! But this one has a number of add-ons, beyond the presets and editing by hand. It also has free and paid effects, like bokeh and light leaks. The individual controls are more robust, and more similar to Photoshop or Lightroom.

Why do we love it? We love the Curves control, which we utilize to create that matte effect. We are also swooning over the fact that you can SAVE your editing steps to create your own presets. Who perfect! Not only will this save you time, but you can create a more cohesive look on your Instagram.

Cost: Free, but there are in-app purchases for the add-on filters and effects.

Waterlogue

What is it? Oh boy, if you haven’t heard of this app yet, be prepared to lose a lot of hours. It’s an app that allows you to turn any photo into a WATERCOLOR MASTERPIECE, in mere seconds. *Drops Mic.

What do we love it? Because who doesn’t want to turn their picture of cocktails into a watercolor? To mix up the content on Instagram, it’s fun to add in pretty pieces of artwork, and bonus, you can easily add text for quotes and marketing materials (read on for our recommendation for that).

Cost: Small fee of $3-5

Canva

What is it? The highly acclaimed desktop site is now a user-friendly app! You can create stunning and professional designs with a drag-and-drop interface. You can now have designer-quality content without the designer know-how.

Why we love it? Let us count the ways. You can create beautiful content with graphic elements and professionally typography easily, and quickly. You are also able to customize your colors, add images, change fonts, and more! If you pick 1-2 designs for Instagram, you can have the most streamlined feed ever! TIP: Combine waterlogue and canva for the ultimate Instagram pic!

Cost: It’s free, as long as you provide your own images.

Planoly

What is it? It’s EVERYTHING! We aren’t even being dramatic. Within the single app, you can see your Instagram feed, upload images (from your phone, Dropbox and Google Drive) and text to schedule your posts, and add unscheduled posts to see what they would look like. You can also view your analytics, your calendar, and your post’s comments.

Why do we love it? Um, everything we just said! But our favorite feature is seeing what our future images will look like within our feed. We are a wee bit OCD, so when we accidentally schedule two typography posts on top of each other, one will typically get deleted We also love the analytics, especially being able to see our most engaging posts. And being able to reply to comments directly on the app is the icing on the cake!

Cost: Unfortunately, planoly is a paid subscription, but it starts at $7/ month. We are currently using Onlypult, but plan on making the switch once our plan runs out. If you’d like to give it a whirl, P7-dayy’s 7 day free trial is perfect!
